The Last of the Lasts

Connor's last day of kindergarten!

At pick up, he posed with Mrs. Rent, his kindergarten teacher.

After school, he celebrated with a Dairy Queen cone.

It was the last of the last school days for my kids. Connor completed his final day of kindergarten. At pick up, I was standing next to a solemn looking mother.

She turned to me and said, "I've got a lump in my throat."

I remembered her kindergarten daughter is the youngest of four. Her baby was finishing kindergarten today.

She continued, "For eleven years I've had a child at home. Now..." She couldn't finish.

Tears welled in my eyes too. Connor wasn't my youngest, but it still stung a little to know he'll embark upon all day school in a matter of months.

When Connor burst out of the school, he beamed. I hugged him and said, "You're a first grader now. I'm so proud of you!"

...and a little sad too.
