Labor Day Loner

I allowed the boys to pick one fun Labor Day weekend activity. The boys begged me to go back to Columbus, Indiana to visit the Children's Museum and the indoor playground.

Here, Connor enjoyed some art work (exercise equipment?) at a park in Columbus.

Collin's all smiles.

Caught Caleb hanging out.

Over the last decade, I've become accustomed to Chris working weekends. Although I miss Chris dearly, I've learned how to manage the typical active weekend schedule as a solo parent. (I've even discovered the benefits to having a Friday night alone: sole ownership of the remote control. You can only imagine the amount of chick flicks versus football games I've viewed!)

It's the holiday weekends that hit me hard. On those weekends, many families are out of town, sports matches are cancelled, and most friends are with their husbands. Twinges of loneliness wash over me. Why can't Chris have bankers' hours, I mutter in flurry of self-pity.

Such is the case this Labor's Day weekend. Chris will spend much of the weekend tending to the myriad of holiday injuries (barbecue burns and inebriated induced injuries, among others).

I'll try my best to entertain the boys, while keeping them out of the ER.

At the end of each night, I'll
stretch out on the couch, cocooned in a blanket, and flip on some riveting Lifetime movie or another viewing of The Notebook. Then, I'll cross my fingers that Chris has Thanksgiving off. Wouldn't that be nice?
